Biden gears up for re-election with second term bid announcement

President Joe Biden is expected to officially announce his bid for a second term as president next week. Multiple reports have stated that the announcement will be made via campaign video on April 25, which marks the four-year anniversary of his 2020 campaign launch. The timing and method of this announcement appears similar to the way the Obama-Biden ticket launched its reelection bid in 2011.

Despite only saying he "intends" to run, speculation has swirled around whether President Biden would enter the race for re-election, mostly due to his struggles in the polls among Democratic voters. Nearly half of early primary state New Hampshire’s Democrats don’t want him to run again. This disapproval from Democrats coincides with low approval ratings from the broader public, as Biden remains dogged by an average approval rating in the low 40s.

However, despite over half of Democrats responding to the contrary, approximately 26% of all voters believe the oldest serving President in US history should run for a second term. Moreover, about 81% of Democrats say they'd back him if he were the party's nominee.

The indirect campaigning behind President Biden’s 2024 potential success began quietly but extensive preparation within both the White House and Democratic National Committee (DNC) ensued. Anita Dunn and Jen O’Malley Dillon are two of President Biden's top advisers overseeing his reelection efforts.

President Biden would be 86 years old at the end of his second term in 2029, making him the oldest-ever serving president of the United States. However, one source indicated that nothing is official until the President announces it himself.

As preparations for his reelection bid intensify within the background, Democrats and Republicans continue to face mounting pressure on how to raise the debt ceiling to avoid a potentially disastrous default. Whether or not this political deadlock will play into the upcoming election cycle is yet to be seen.

After much debate and speculation, President Joe Biden is expected to formally launch his 2024 reelection campaign next week. While his approval ratings remain low and he faces disapproval from some within the Democratic party, President Biden's candidacy has extensive preparation behind the scenes, making him a potentially formidable contender in the upcoming election cycle.
